Restore a 300-Year-Old Mill for America’s 250 and Beyond
Fundraiser in Progress
Dear Friends of the Mill at Anselma,
The Mill at Anselma has been part of our community for generations. Operated and maintained entirely by dedicated volunteers, it is a working historic mill, not just a museum.
Time and use have taken their toll. Critical repairs are now needed to keep the mill’s gear operations running correctly. Each visit from a specialized repair technician costs about $10,000, making these repairs a major but necessary investment.
Throughout the year, we faced several unexpected pauses in production, all of which were eventually traced back to this beam. Because it sat beneath a metal component, the rot remained completely hidden, making the issue difficult to identify. After three visits from a specialized millwright engineer, the true source was finally uncovered. While frustrating at the time, this discovery allowed us to address the root cause and take the right steps to protect the mill for the future.
We have launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $100,000 to repair and restore the mill’s gear system and ensure it continues to operate safely for visitors, now and for generations to come, especially as we prepare for America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
